Johanna Mair is Professor of General Management at IESE Business School of the University of Navarra, Barcelona. She teaches strategy and social entrepreneurship in the MBA program, the executive programs and the PhD program at IESE. She also teaches course development in the International Faculty Development Program (IFDP), a program providing training to faculty of developing countries. Johanna earned her PhD in Management with a specialization in Strategy from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France) and publishes in strategy and entrepreneurship journals.

Her current research focuses on the intersection of traditional strategy and social entrepreneurship. As such she is interested in entrepreneurial activity that aims at economic and social value creation, both in the context of established and newly created organizations. Johanna collaborates closely with the Schwab Foundation and Ashoka on research and teaching and is the coordinator of Asia Link, an EU sponsored program that fosters exchange and mobility between Asia and Europe in the area of social entrepreneurship.

In March 2005 Johanna organized and hosted the first International Research Conference on Social Entrepreneurship (ISERC) in Barcelona. Selected papers from the inaugural conference were published (May 2006) in a seminal work which she has co-edited. The book has been nominated as one of the “most promising” business books by the European Academy of Management.
